The Femistent Grip (see later) allows an individual who is perhaps dilating whilst lying down to hold the dilator in the position they want by simply closing their thighs on the Grip. This frees both hands to enable a woman who is dilating for example to hold a book. If a Grip is not used there is a tendency for the lubricated dilator to slip out of position and therefore not necessarily dilate the vagina to the desired extent unless one hand is used all the time to ensure the dilator remains in the required position, which is both inconvenient and a bit of a strain.

Says Christine of Sussex:  "Sadly I have regarded the use of a medical dilator as a laborious ‘chore’ - due mostly to the types prescribed by the hospital requiring constant pressure be maintained by one hand, leaving limited options available with the other to while away the time. The Selene range comprises six dilators which vary only in diameter, from 25.5 mm (1”) to 38.0 mm (1.1/2”). All are available in the Rosegold (R) colour (shown below on the left) with the 27.0 mm (1.1/16”), and 32.0 mm (1.1/4”) diameter versions also being available in the Platinum (P) colour. All Selene dilators are 212.5mm (8.1/2”) long.

 

Selene dilators (patent pending) are manufactured from medical grade Tecason P MT plastic (see later), and as with all with Femistent dilators are easy and effective to use and keep clean. All dilators are shipped with a copy of the latest version of the illustrated comprehensive Femistent “Usage Advice Document”. Selene dilators are more expensive than the Lara because they are manufactured from a superior material and have a threaded hole in the end into which the Femistent Grip can be screwed.

The Tecason P MT material used to manufacture Selene dilators is a very good medical grade plastic with significantly superior qualities to Tecaform AH MT. As such Selene dilators are designed to have long useful life whilst also being able to withstanding aggressive cleaning, such as being regularly boiled in water, placed into a domestic dishwasher and even in an autoclave. Furthermore, if this material is frequently cleaned in this manner, it should not deteriorate for a long time. As such, Selene dilators are recommended for those needing to use a particular dilator, or set of dilators, for extended periods, perhaps many years, for example following vaginoplasty.

The Selene Set

The Selene Set comprises five dilators each of a different diameter: 25.5 mm (1”), 27.0 mm (1.1/16”), 28.5 mm (1.1/8”), 32.0 mm (1.1/4”) and 35.0 mm (1.3/8”) together with a Femistent Grip. Also included are the custom-made Travel Bag in which dilators can be kept between use, and a copy of the latest version of the illustrated comprehensive Femistent 'Usage Advice Document' (see below).

The Selene Set comprises two colours of dilator, three Rosegold coloured dilators, and two of the Platinum colour. The two dilator colours are alternated within the Set to ensure that no two adjacent diameters have the same colour (i.e. R-P-R-P-R). This makes it much easier for an individual to distinguish between the different dilators, since sometimes the difference in dilator diameter will be quite small and difficult to differentiate by touch or sight unless one looks at the product number.

The Selene Set includes a Femistent Grip which can free a woman’s hands whilst dilating (see later). Furthermore, by having a set of five diameters available, it is considerably easier for a QMP to decide with which diameter dilator a woman should start to dilate with, and also allows for progression to larger diameters dilators as the therapy proceeds.

Selene Combination Sets

Femistent Combination Sets comprise 4 Lara dilators, one Selene dilator, a Femistent Grip, a Travel Bag, and of course a copy of the illustrated Femistent Usage Advice Document. 

Combination Sets are intended to provide the optimum of cost effective vaginal dilation sets for a typical person recovering from vaginoplasty (SRS / GRS) who requires sensible progressions from smaller to larger diameter dilators, ending with a very high quality dilator system which can be used for the long term.

Since Combination Sets contain dilators with diameters from 25.5 mm (1") to 38.0 mm (1.1/2"), i.e. ending with a slightly larger final diameter dilator than in the standard Sets, some of the dilator diameter steps from the smallest to the largest are slightly greater than is the case within the standard Sets.  However the discomfort that is likely to result is offset by a significant cost saving.

Selene Combination Set details:

Of the five dilators contained within the Set, four of these are Lara dilators each of a different colour and diameter:  25.5 mm (1"), 28.5 mm (1.1/8"), 32.0 mm (1.1/4") and 35.0 mm (1.3/8").

In the Selene Sunglow Combination Set the colours of these four dilators alternate as S-L-S-L.  While in the Selene Lagoon Combination Set the colours of these dilators alternate as L-S-L-S.

Also included within both these Sets is a rosegold Selene 38.0 mm(1.1/2") dilator and a platinum coloured Femistent Grip.  This Selene dilator is the only one to which the Femistent Grip may be attached. 

Finally, all these Sets contain a Femistent Travel Bag and a copy of the Femistent Usage Advice Document.

Usage Advice Document (UAD)

All Femistent Selene dilators and Sets are shipped with a free copy of the Femistent comprehensive illustrated Usage Advice Document. The UAD comprises 40 pages of useful information about how to care for your Femistent dilators, some generalised tips about how you can prepare to dilate safely and effectively, and some ideas of how to prepare for major vaginal surgeries, such as vaginoplasty.
