Femistent - Lara Dilators

Lara dilators (patent pending) are the simplest and most economic range of dilators from Femistent but still display many of the Femistent special design features like the carefully shaped nose and tactile measuring grooves. All Lara dilators are supplied with an integral handle. It is not possible to assemble a Lara dilator to a Femistent Grip.

Lara dilators (see Figure 3) are available in nine diameters from 15.0 mm (9/16") to 38.0 mm (1.1/2") and in two colours Sunglow (S) and Lagoon (L). All Lara dilators are 212.5 mm (8.1/2") long. They may be purchased individually or in sets of five (see later). As with all Femistent dilators the Lara is intended to be easy and effective to use and keep clean, and is shipped with a copy of the latest version of the Femistent comprehensive illustrated Usage Advice Document (see below).

All Lara dilators are manufactured from Tecaform AH MT plastic which is a medical grade plastic designed to have a long life and to withstand quite aggressive cleaning such as regularly being put into a domestic dishwasher or occasionally boiled in water. However, if this material was cleaned in an autoclave, it would start to deteriorate. This should not be a problem for most women as autoclaves are not found in many homes. Nevertheless, Lara dilators are recommended for those needing to use a particular dilator, or set of dilators, for a couple of years or so. Such usage could perhaps follow Vaginoplasty as a woman together with her QMP, establishes what diameter dilator would be best for her to use in the longer term. For extended periods of use it would be worth considering purchasing either a Selene or Pandora dilator made from the higher quality Tecason P MT material.

The Lara Set

The Lara Set comprises five Lara dilators each of a different diameter: 25.5 mm (1”), 27.0 mm (1.1/16”), 28.5 mm (1.1/8”), 32.0 mm (1.1/4”)and 35.0 mm (1.3/8”).

Two Lara Sets are available, and the difference between them is purely one of colour. These are respectively the “Sunglow Set” which has three Sunglow coloured dilators and two of Lagoon (as shown below), and the “Lagoon Set” which has three Lagoon coloured dilators and two of Sunglow. In both cases the different colours are alternated with one another to ensure that dilators of adjacent diameters are not the same colour. This is to help distinguish the various diameters since some of the differences in diameter are quite small and difficult to differentiate by touch or sight unless one looks at the product number.

So in the Lara Sunglow Set, the three Sunglow dilators are respectively the smallest, middle sized and largest diameters, with the two intermediate dilators being of Lagoon (i.e. S-L-S-L-S). In the Lagoon Set the colours are simply reversed (i.e. L-S-L-S-L).

By having a set of five diameters available, it is considerably easier for a QMP to decide with which diameter dilator a woman should start to dilate and also allows for easy progression to larger diameters as the therapy proceeds.

Combination Sets

Femistent Combination Sets comprise 4 Lara dilators, one Pandora or Selene dilator, a Femistent Grip, a Travel Bag, and of course a copy of the illustrated Femistent Usage Advice Document.

They are intended to provide the optimum of cost effective sets for a typical person recovering from vaginoplasty (SRS / GRS) who requires sensible progressions from smaller to larger diameter dilators, ending with a very high quality dilator system which can be used for the long term. Combination Sets contain dilators with diameters from 25.5 mm (1") to 38.0 mm (1.1/2"), i.e. ending with a slightly larger final diameter dilator than in the standard Sets.

Usage Advice Document (UAD)

All Femistent Lara dilators and Sets are shipped with a free copy of the Femistent comprehensive illustrated Usage Advice Document. The UAD comprises 40 pages of useful information about how to care for your Femistent dilators, some generalised tips about how you can prepare to dilate safely and effectively, and some ideas of how to prepare for major vaginal surgeries, such as vaginoplasty.
